Ramadan Mubarak for 2016!

Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar in which Muslims worldwide observe as a month of fasting, is regarded as the holiest time of the year for Muslims.

The beginning and end of Ramadan is determined by the lunar Islamic calendar. This year, Ramadan 2016 began in the evening of June 6 and will end on the evening of July 5.

The month-long fasting holiday, where food is served before sunrise and after sunset only, is dedicated to prayer, self-reflection and charitable contributions.

Fasting for Muslims during Ramadan typically includes the increased offering of prayers and recitation of the Quran, the central religious text of Islam, while from refraining from evil actions, thoughts and words.

According to Islam, fasting during this month is believed to be a spiritual and social experience, meant to curb distraction, instill a sense of humility and compassion, and focus on spiritual development.

Therefore, fasting is not merely physical, but is rather the total commitment of the person's body and soul to the spirit of the fast in order to re-evaluate their lives in light of Islamic guidance.
