Ramadan Kareem!

Month of Ramadan fast facts:

Ramadan is the month the Qur’an was revealed

Ramadan follows the lunar cycle and is the 9th month in the Islamic calendar

Most Muslims observe Ramadan by fasting from sunrise to sunset with no food or water.

Fasting is one of the Five Pillars of Islam

In accordance to the tradition of the Prophet Muhammad, most Muslims break their fast with a date.

Fasting is not just about withholding from food and water. It is much more. It is a time of heightened spirituality and a time of self-reflection. Many Muslims use Ramadan to reconnect with Islam by reading the Qur’an in 1/30th segments each day until it is completed. Charity, another pillar of Islam, is also greatly tied into the spirit of Ramadan. The physical hunger felt from withholding food serves its purpose by facilitating an environment for empathy.

Here at SA International, we have great empathy for all coworkers who are fasting. We show our respect by not eating or drinking in front of those fasting.

Celebrating EID al- Fitr 2015

Celebrating EID al- Fitr 2015

Eid al-Fitr is fast approaching and the team at SA International is very excited!

Celebrating EID al- Fitr 2015!!!!!

Eid marks the end of Ramadan, the holy month of fasting. On Eid, it is customary for families to celebrate with lots of food and gifts.

Families celebrate Eid similarly to how Christian families celebrate the Christmas tradition in the United States…with lots of food, presents, and decorating! Such similar trends are decorating home and businesses with lights. Many Muslim families in Saudi Arabia hang “Eid lights” in honor of the holiday. Another similarity to the Christmas tradition, Many Arab Families and Saudi Families alike make an assortment of Eid cookies in honor of the celebration of Eid.

While rejoicing is a major part of celebrating Eid, it is also important to recognize those who are less fortunate, also known as Zakat or charity. Before the day of Eid, it is customary for families to donate food, money and clothing to local charities so that low-income families can properly observe the religious holiday. It is also traditional in some areas for Saudi men to anonymously leave large quantities of rice and other staples on the doorsteps of those who otherwise could not afford them. Also, in some areas in Saudi Arabia, it is a common tradition during Eid morning and after the Eid prayer for people to gather on large rugs in the streets of their neighborhood to share large meals prepared by each household.

Here at SA International, we celebrate with warm greetings and warm date-filled Eid cookies topped with powdered sugar.

We Wish You ALL Happy Holidays!
